Van Damme talking about God

"I'm back in shape, and I want everyone to know it!
God gave me a great body, and it's my duty to take care of my physical temple".
-- Jean Claude van Damme, film festival of Cannes on Friday 12 May 2000.

Also Jean Claude told that God helped him to beat his drugs addiction. The pressure to make movies led Jean Claude to seek solace in drugs.  "I did twenty movies", van Damme says. "I became a machine."

But he says the bad old days of abuse are behind him, and that he has God to thank for it. "God helped me", he says. "I believe in God big time. I've loved God for a couple of years.
Some people don't like to hear about God. I came back very strong and decent.
I'm going to do my best to be a good person."

And van Damme has some news for those who have seen all his action films: most of the fight scenes were performed under the influence. "I did all those action scenes when I was sick," he said, euphemistically referring to his drug abuse. "I was specifically addicted to sleeping pills".

He credits God as a good rehab center for getting him clean, but also says that regular exercise and plenty of fluids helped him overcome his addiction. "You can clean you body fast by drinking lots of water," he says, "and training a lot. The human body is a great mechanic. If you know how to drive that mechanic, you can be a different person."
