"Ford and Willis voted best action heroes"
They may be getting a little long in the tooth these days, but the appeal of Bruce Willis and Harrison Ford as the epitome of cinematic action heroes continues.
Willis, 53, who returned to the screen with the fourth instalment of his Die Hard franchise last year, and 65-year-old Ford, who hits UK cinema screens as Indiana Jones later this month, tied for the top spot in a poll of the greatest ever action heroes, each receiving 25 per cent of the vote.
And Terminator star turned governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, 60, came third in the poll by cinema advertising company Pearl & Dean with 15 per cent, pushing more recent action heroes down the list.
The survey of 3,000 English people found many feel that Willis set the standard for the 1980s action hero playing wise-cracking cop John McClane in Die Hard, a role he reprised for the fourth time last year.
Ford is remembered as Han Solo in Star Wars as well as swashbuckling archaeologist Indiana Jones, whose fourth outing is released on May 22.
Kathryn Jacob, the chief executive of Pearl & Dean, said: “It seems I’m not alone in preferring the older breed of action hero - film fans across the UK agree the newer leading men just can’t hold a candle to the old school versions.
"The fact that Bruce and Harrison can still attract cinema-goers in their millions is testament to their pulling power."
Matt Damon, as Jason Bourne in the Bourne trilogy, came fourth with 7 per cent.
Daniel Craig as James Bond achieved fifth-equal place, tied with action hero stalwarts Sylvester Stallone, Steven Seagal and Mel Gibson with 5 per cent each.
Hugh Jackman, who played Wolverine in the X-Men trilogy, was ranked in joint last place with Jean-Claude Van Damme with 4 per cent of the vote. Source: The Daily Telegraph

"Lundgren And Van Damme Return To Universal
Soldier"
Internet is full of rumours. Today a new
one.
One of our most reliable sources tell us that Sony is in the process of developing some new DTV sequels, and one of those sequels will be Universal Soldier 3. Of course there’s already been something called Universal Soldier III. In 1998 a bunch of spare parts starred in a made for TV movie called Universal Soldier III: Unfinished Business. So they’ll come up with something else to call it, probably a title without a number in it.
The exciting thing here is that it’s not just another direct to DVD sequel with a bunch of replacement parts. Jean-Claude Van Damme, who starred in the original Universal Soldier, is in talks to topline this new one. Right now they’re developing it as a DTV project, but if they get him and if some of Van Damme’s other upcoming projects like Full Love do well, there’s a chance it could end up becoming a theatrical release.
There’ve been whispers that Dolph Lundgren may be involved too, though that’s little more than a rumor at this point.
The original Universal Soldier first hit theaters back in 1992, directed by now king of the disaster movie Roland Emmerich. Jean-Claude plays a super soldier who breaks free from his killing programming and goes on the run, pursued by another super soldier played by the muscles of Dolph Lundgren.
For now this sounds like its a project still in the early planning stages, and things can change. Until we can get more confirmation on what's happening with it from Sony, consider this a solid rumor. Source: www.cinemablend.com

Respect animals
Jean-Claude
Van Damme has offered his fans a
small moment of privacy while he was
taking a stroll on a Belgian beach right
next to the North sea with his son
Kristopher and his three dogs.
"It's
one of my favourite places. We can walk
on the beach for hours in totally
tranguillity. Moreover the air is very
rich in iodine, which is extremely good
for the health. I love to talk here with
my son. We are working together on my
next movie. He is going to be
responsible for one camera, and after
that he is planning on direct his own
project. I'm really proud of him.
Let
me introduce you our three dogs
which we found and adopted.
-Stella, found in the desert of Mojave
-Julie, found in the valley of
Chatsworth close to Los Angeles
-Ajax, found on the shoot of "In
Hell" in Bulgaria
Abandoned,
lost and sometimes badly treated, we had
to give them an enormous amount of love
to help them to overcome some of their
traumatisms. Today they are very happy,
balenced, smart and very attentive. They
are really a part of our family.
You
know, when we respect animals, we tend
to respect human beings. I encourage
people to adopt abandoned animals. It's
a beautiful life story which leads to a
beautiful love story. But before doing
so, one must think hard about taking on
such a responsibility. Adopting an
animal can bring on many constraints.
It's a little bit like having a
kid." Source: www.jeanclauevandamme.be

Sheldon impressed by power of Van Damme
On
the VanDammeFan Forum Sheldon Lettich
(director of various VD movies) told he
is very impressed by the kicks of
Jean-Claude. Sheldon: "What has impressed me more than anything is the actual power that he projects in his kicks. That's something which can't really be seen on-screen, because a solid kick from
Jean-Claude could literally kill somebody, which is why the on-screen impacts always have to be "misses" rather than actual hits.
A number of years ago, after I'd introduced JC to Chuck Pfarrer (who eventually wrote "Hard Target"), Chuck wanted JC to demonstrate the power of one of his kicks. Chuck had been an officer in the Navy SEALs for about eight years, and he was a pretty big guy who was in great physical condition at the time. We were in a gym, and Chuck picked up a couple of exercise pads and held those in front of his chest for the demonstration. JC advised Chuck to hold up a couple more pads, for a total of four. Chuck insisted that two would be just fine, but JC refused to kick him unless he used four. So Chuck grabbed two more pads and told JC to give him his best shot. Well, JC let loose with a kick that literally knocked Chuck across the room. It took Chuck a while to catch his breath afterwards, but he thanked JC for advising him to use those two additional pads!
It may not have been as spectacular-looking as a double-kick or a helicopter-kick, but that little demonstration impressed me, and certainly left a lasting impression with Chuck Pfarrer."

Predator
There always was and is a lot of
mis-information about Van Damme if he was
involved in Arnolds movie
Predator or not. Recently in an
interview with Avclub Jean-Claude told
about it.
Van
Damme: "I was in that
originally, it was obviously the first
one. They did a cast of my body. My feet
were in the cast of the alien. My hands
were in the forearms, my head was in the
neck. I was moving everything with
cables. It was a very unsecure, very
dangerous type of outfit. It didn't work
for nobody. They put air conditioning
into my back, because it was very hot in
Mexico. So they did another outfit with
a bigger guy, taller guy on the
inside. So I was hired, then I was
cancelled. But that helped for Bloodsport.
It's a very funny story, because when I
met Menahem Golan from Cannon, he heard
about me playing the Predator, and he
was very excited to sign me for Bloodsport.
That helped me a lot. He didn't know I
was an alien. He ain't going to see my
face and my body. He thought I was the
type of alien with a human face and
body, where people would be able to
recognize me. The studio gave me good
money and helped me to stretch another
year in Los Angeles."
For more info about Predator check out
our predator page here.
Yesterday we told you about the
interview JCVD did with MTV. But JCVD
also did an interview with his own fans,
members of the VanDammeFan Forum.
Van Damme said it was an honor to
work with Scott Adkins in the Shepherd.
"I like being able to train like
the old times and to have a very young
opponent like Scott Adkins, to have a
real challenge in myself, in a physical
way and besides that, a great script. It
gave me a different kind of acting to be
mature."
About making another martial arts film he
said: "If the story is the central
attraction inside the movie, yes I will do so."
Van Damme is happy with his fans:
"Because of you, I am what I am
today. I have a voice because of you.
Truly, with you guys and without your
taste I will not be what I am. Thank you
guys, thank you for your trust in
me."
